The Platz der Freiheit, a square in the Neuhausen district, is located at the intersection where Landshuter Allee and Leonrodstraße meet. Ysenburgstraße and Volkartstraße are also in the immediate vicinity of the square. Originally, the square was known as Hindenburgplatz. In 1946, however, it was renamed Platz der Freiheit. This name was meant to commemorate the victims of National Socialism. For this reason, 40 years after the end of the war, a memorial stone made of granite was erected on the square, designed by Karl Oppenrieder.
In addition, the artist Wolfram P. Kastner planned to erect another monument on the square. He put this plan into action. In July 2016, the artwork was installed, consisting of portraits, names, and life stories of people who fought against the Nazi regime. This monument is expected to remain on the square until 2019.
