As the name Bogenhausen-Priel Garden City suggests, it is located in Bogenhausen. It should not be confused with the Am Priel-Hof villa colony.
This attractive neighborhood is situated between Cosimastraße, Effnerstraße, Lohengrinstraße, Oberföhringer Straße, and Wahnfriedallee.
Construction of the Bogenhausen-Priel garden city began in 1934. It was initially built primarily as a family home. Because numerous streets in the garden city are named after Richard Wagner’s operas, it is often referred to as the “Richard Wagner Quarter.” Examples of streets in the district include Elsastraße, Gralstraße, and Telramundstraße.
The entire area was originally owned by the family of Josef Grimmeisen, a member of the “Loambaronen” family, who operated a brickyard at Oberföhringer Straße 103 (in 1879). After the First World War and its aftermath, Grimmeisen was forced to demolish his brickyard. The Bogenhausen-Priel garden city was eventually built on the land that once belonged to Josef Grimmeisen.
