The Kieferngarten district, which today belongs to the Freimann district, originally comprised three settlements. The new settlement was named after the Kieferngarten Settlers’ Association, founded in 1946.
Kieferngarten was initially a so-called “wild settlement,” also known colloquially as the “shooting range settlement” due to its proximity to a shooting range.
In 1950, a new road was built to improve access to Kieferngarten. This road was named Kieferngartenstraße (Kieferngarten Street).
Two years later, Kieferngarten was officially recognized as a district by the city council. Later, the Großkopf housing estate and the temporary housing estate were added to Kieferngarten.
Today, the Munich district of Kiefergarten boasts its own subway station and is therefore an increasingly popular location in the Bavarian capital.
