The housing estate near Perlacher Forst, perhaps better known as the “American Estate” or “Ami Estate,” is located in the Fasangarten district of Munich. It was built in 1953 for the American soldiers who occupied Munich at that time. It was designed in a typical American style.
The American housing estate had many green spaces from the beginning and was designed like a park. Its exceptional urban design was particularly praised.
After the Americans marched out in the 1990s, the American housing estate initially fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal Property Administration, then under the Federal Agency for Real Estate (BIMA). The latter began selling the land and apartments to private owners.
Thirteen buildings have been sold so far. Patrizia AG was responsible for this. The sale of further houses in the Perlacher Forst/American Settlement development is still being pursued.
