Neuberghausen in the Munich district of Bogenhausen

In the 17th century, there was an estate called “Hofstatt auf dem Perg zu Pogenhausen” (Courtyard on the Hill at Pogenhausen). It was so beautiful that it could easily have passed for a small castle. It was originally built in the 15th century near the Bogenhausen church square. Today, that would be Maria-Theresia-Straße 35.

The small castle changed hands several times during the 18th century until, on June 3, 1740, it finally came into the possession of Caspar Gregor von Lachenmayr. This gentleman was a court chamber councilor and privy paymaster.

One month after Lachenmayr acquired the castle, Elector Karl Albrecht declared it a noble residence. Its new name: “Neuberghaußen.” Along with Steppberg Castle, the Neuberghausen estate was now the second noble residence in the area.

August Joseph Count von Törring-Jettenbach purchased “Neuberghausen Castle” in 1760 and had it remodeled in the Rococo style.

In 1818, Neuberghausen, along with the small castle, was declared an independent municipality. It was incorporated into Munich in 1892.
