The Obermaier Colony is located in the Denning district, which lies within the Bogenhausen borough of Munich. The square “Zur Deutschen Einheit” (To German Unity) is situated within the colony. East Prussia Street can be found to the west of the settlement.
The Obermaier Colony is bordered by the following four streets: Marienburger Straße, Memeler Straße, Ostpreußenstraße, and Posener Straße.
The settlement originated in the first half of the 20th century when Leonhard Obermaier began selling individual plots of land in the area of the present-day settlement. A small housing development was built and named after Leonhard Obermaier.
During construction work in 1928, a Roman villa was discovered, which is now known as the “Villa rustica” of Denning.
After 1945, the relatively simple buildings were gradually replaced by larger structures and villas.
The Obermaier Colony measures 500 meters by 350 meters and covers an area of approximately 17 hectares.
Similar to the Denninger Colony, which was established around the same time, the Obermaier Colony is characterized by houses with larger gardens.
