Zamilapark lies north of Eggenfeldener Straße, precisely between the railway line from Munich East Station to Munich Airport and Lüderitzstraße. To the west of Zamilapark is the Afrikasiedlung (Africa Settlement), also known as the Kolonialsiedlung (Colonial Settlement). To the north is Denninger Anger, with its beautiful meadows, a lake, and excellent sports facilities.
Zamilapark covers approximately 13 hectares and takes its name from Zamilastraße, which has existed since 1956. The name Zamila is likely derived from the personal name Zamo. Zam means mild or tame.
Zamilapark primarily features larger apartment buildings with up to four stories. These are arranged in a horseshoe shape and feature attractive, green courtyards. In total, Zamilapark contains 1,200 residential units. The settlement has a very park-like character, which is also reflected in the settlement’s name.
In the east of the district, along the railway line, there are also office complexes that provide workplaces for approximately 2,000 employees. There is also a supermarket, medical practices, a restaurant, and a bistro.
The development was built between 1983 and 1991 by Josef Schörghuber’s company “Bayerischer Hausbau.” The architects responsible were Bernd Obersteiner and the Munich-based firm Wiegelt & Partner.
